«The next generation»
Look around. How many teenagers do you see without a cell, an iPod or a computer? We have everything today! Expencive things. It's not only technical things we pay bloody much for, but also clothes, shoes and jewlery. Let me correct myself, we don't pay, the parants do! I just wonder why? If they think we are so spoiled, why do they keep on giving us things? Is it our fault that we have everything we need, and more? Is it our fault that we get all we want?We know we are spoiled. We know we get everything we want. We know how to manipulate our parents.
We've learned it since we were small innocent children, that what we point at, we get. Our parents just coulden't say «no» to our sparkling eyes, and they can't now. Why can't they just say «no» sometimes? We get too much. Many of us don't feel the same joy when we get something. We just say «thank you», without even meaning it. Christmas and birthday. The presents gets more and more expencive as we gets older. What do you think that has done to us? It has made us more materialistic than ever before! We «need» the coolest pair of shoes, no matter how expencive they are. We absolutely must have the coolest clothes we find in the store, and we «can't live» without our cell!
My next question is why do we want all this? Why is expencive things better to have than things to low price? I think the media has something to do with it. From the first day we watched tv, we've been propped with advertising. A smiling woman who gets a diamond-ring, or a topless girl with only jeans on. The brain can easly point out what's good to have, and what we don't want to have. Expencive things signify welth and money. We want to show other people how succesful we are. In todays community it's important to show others that we're not losers, by wearing expencive clothes, and driving nice cars. Our status is the most important thing in our society. There's a social latter, we know whom are on the top and we know whom are on the bottom. There's an enormous pressure to fit in,
the easiest way is buy the materialistic. Don't buy cheap trash, and low priced products. If you do, people will think you are poor. It's killing to wear cheap clothes and to use a two-years-old cellphone. We have to follow the market, we must have what's new. There's no need to buy a expencive trouser, if it doesen't have a brand mark. The little, almost invisible mark is the most important thing. Advertising, pictures and models in magazines, tells us how to look like, and what we must wear. G&B and Dior is two well-known expencive marks. I have to tell you, not all of us teenagers cares about the social latter. Some of us dare to be different. I try to be one of them. Sometimes I wonder if it is only something the media came up with, so we would buy their products. This is true, this is the reality. Maybe I sat it a little on the edge, but hey! That's what teenagers do.
